Today's world can be classified into 2 Era's. The pre covid-19 era and the post covid-19 era. Everything just changed from that moment. Earlier sanitizer was considered just a dumb thing done by some elite's, but today it's an extremely important accessory we have to carry. Today you can forget your phone while going out but not your sanitizer. Then there were the masks which feel like an mandatory obligation. Few months before covid-19 the government was telling us to wear masks so we can protect ourselves from pollution. But with all of this were still fine and we actually adjusted ourselves quite successfully. But the thing which was the most impactful thing in this CRUEL CORONA era was WORK FROM HOME.
I mean for every advantage there was a disadvantage already waiting in line to greet us. Like work from home gave us flexibility to work. This sounds so good, doesn't it. Yeah we will not work 9 am - 5 pm. But we also didn't knew we have to work more than the regular hours as well. After all we are doing WORK FROM HOME RIGHT? We were also told that THE BOUNDARIES OF OFFICE AND HOME WILL NOT BE THERE ANYMORE. It sounded like a classic Shakespeare quote. But this what kick started the real problem actually. Now since there are no boundaries we have to keep working. The work load increased. Earlier we came from office and relaxed at home but now we stay at home and work continuously. Initially in the office we all felt, we have to just send some mails and make some phone calls and all the miscellaneous tasks can be easily done through phone and laptops. But internet problems are real, because it's not just for one or two days but a daily thing. Sometimes you laptop has some problems and all. Our senior thinks we are just trying to avoid work.
Earlier in office if we wanted to have a meeting with staff, we could easily do it without any hassle, but now you have to check their availability. By the way did I forget to mention about breaks. In office we could take some break, relax with your colleagues for a short span and comeback and resume our work. But now we have strict deadlines for work which is tiring to a certain extent. And even we take some breaks where will we get those colleagues back. Earlier we were worried about the transportation charges we incurred. Now we are worried about internet charges and electricity charges (because they have increased). Now we are being asked to come to office and it feels like a weird transition. This is just the office life I discussed till now. There is the domestic life as well. Did I tell you about children? Oh god they and there home work! At this time, children's online classes are going on which is harmful. Sitting on computer or laptop all day has affected the health of children. But there are some advantages too! Like through this strict regime we have learnt time management. And we can modify our work space too which does help in improving our productivity as well. Yeah no dressing up for work too! There is a certain amount of luxury while working in pyjamas and shorts. I am obviously not counting those days where our luxury is taken away from us (the days when we have to report to the office) We can also improve our health. As during the pre covid-19 era when we went to office, we ate a lot of junk food. Not only that thing costed our wallet, it also came at the cost of our health. At least in the scenario of work from one eats mostly home cooked food. Not to forget the flexibility of working hours can give us some time to exercise as well (a little exercise never hurts!). Also due to flexibility of working hours our back posture has improved as in pre covid-19 era we had to sit in the office chair for a long span. Short walks of 10 min in between can definitely help us in completing the target of ten thousand steps a day. In this covid-19 era lot of employees had to lose their jobs, at least we had a job. Even if it comes with a lesser pay, it is still better than being jobless. When people are losing their lives, working conveniently from our homes is a luxury which should be respected. And in the life and times of this cruel corona which I think will still continue in this year (yes vaccine has come but still it will take time), maybe this working style can have some sort of future. As employers have found that this style is slightly economical and technically feasible. |
